0n December 13 to 16, 2022, the ASEAN Federation for Plastic Industries (AFPI) held an onsite joint conference with the Asia Plastics Forum (APF) and Global Plastic Alliance (GPA) at Carlton Hotel Bangkok Sukhumvit, Thailand. Organized by the Plastic Industry Club under the Federation of Thai Industries, the AFPI, representing seven ASEAN countries, aims to promote economic cooperation and coordination in the plastics industry within the region.
The APF, consisting of twelve Asian countries, focuses on sustainability issues in the plastics industry and advocates for a circular economy model and strong recycling communities. The GPA, a global collaboration, addresses ocean litter by promoting waste reduction, recycling, and global collaboration among plastics producers.
The Philippine Plastics Industry Association (PPIA) participated in the conference, sharing updates on challenges and regulations, including the Philippines' Extended Producers Responsibility legislation. The conference served as an opportunity to prepare strategies for the future amidst industry challenges, including the crafting of a uniform policy for UN states.
During the conference, the PPIA delegation discussed industry updates, trends, and insights with counterparts from various countries. The three-day event marked the transition of leadership in AFPI, with the PPIA assuming the chairmanship. Despite acknowledged difficulties, the PPIA is committed to advancing AFPI's goals and targets, showcasing its work, and fostering meaningful exchanges for the benefit of the global plastic industry.
