The Philippine Plastics Industry Association Inc (PPIA) recently stepped up to support communities in Metro Manila that were heavily impacted by the devastating effects of Typhoon Carina. The association coordinated the distribution of essential relief goods to seven cities that were badly affected by the severe flooding.
The cities that received the PPIA's assistance were Manila, Valenzuela, Navotas, Malabon, Caloocan, Pasig, and Marikina. PPIA raised funds for 2500 grocery packs. Each grocery pack contained 5 kgs rice, 10 cans of sardines, 24 packs of instant noodles, and a 4-gallon plastic pail. They were delivered to the local government units to be distributed among the displaced and distressed residents.
During times of crisis, it is crucial for various industries to come together and provide aid to those in need. Plastics play a vital role in ensuring the efficient & effective delivery of relief assistance due to their light weight, making them easier to transport & distribute to hard-to-reach areas affected by the calamity. Plastic packaging, containers, and other plastic-based items are designed to withstand tough conditions, ensuring the safety and integrity of the relief goods.
The PPIAI's relief efforts underscore the industry's commitment to supporting the community and responding to the needs of those affected by natural disasters. By leveraging the advantages of plastics, the association was able to provide timely and much-needed aid to the residents of the seven Metro Manila cities devastated by Typhoon Carina.
