The Philippine Plastics Industry Association Inc. (formerly the Philippine Plastics Industrial Association, Inc.) was formed on January 18, 1970, with an initial membership of eighty (80) plastic companies.
On September 6, 1970, it was officially inaugurated and now houses its office in a building located at 122 A. Del Mundo Street, between 10th and 11th avenues, Grace Park (West), Caloocan City, Philippines.
The Philippine Plastics Industry Association, Inc. was established to unite all plastic manufacturers in the Philippines to accelerate industrialization in the country.
For more than 50 years, the plastics industry has been serving the country by providing products that are significant to different sectors of the industry, including manufacturing, construction, transportation, electronics, agriculture, pharmaceuticals, and many more. Thus, the industry continuously provides jobs and opportunities for Filipinos.
Since its establishment, the Philippine Plastics Industry Association has been steadfast in its advocacy, all for the benefit of the downstream plastics industry.
For 48 years, the Philippine Plastics Industry Association has been recognized as the voice of the local downstream plastics industry, addressing government policies and legislation, customs and tariff issues, and environmental concerns. With this commitment, PPIA continues its unwavering effort to improve the industry towards the sustainable development goals of the government.
PPIA is actively involved in addressing environmental issues and pursuing scientific and fact-based environmental policies. In 2016, the Association provided technical and scientific input in addressing and articulating environmental concerns and in the development of the Life Cycle Analysis (LCA) of Carrying Bags Options for Metro Manila, pursuant to Sec. 29 of R.A. 9003 or the NEAP.
PPIA is also assisting the government in promoting the 3Rs (reduce, reuse, recycle) through an information and education campaign (IEC), specifically on proper solid waste management and segregation for recovery and recycling of post-consumer plastic wastes, in accordance with the mandate and implementation of Republic Act 9003 or the "Ecological Solid Waste Management of the Philippines of 2000."
