Capacity Building Workshop for Bioplastics, in KTR, ROK

From June 17 to 21, 2024, the DTI-Board of Investments (BOI), in partnership with the Korea Export-Import Bank (KEXIM) and the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI), organized the Capacity Building Workshop for Bioplastics Industry Stakeholders of the Philippines at KTR in South Korea.

The workshop brought together representatives from the private sector, including PPIA, PARMS, and AKO Packaging, as well as from the government sector, such as BOI, DOST, and CCC.

Participants engaged in a series of lectures, seminars, and tours of research facilities. Experts from renowned institutions, including the Korean Bioplastics Association, delivered insightful presentations on biodegradable plastic technologies and circular economy models. Attendees toured testing laboratories and research and development facilities.

There was also a discussion on eco-labeling, which covered the differences between petrochemical-based products and bio-based, biodegradable products. It was highlighted that while bio-based products are derived from agricultural sources, they are not entirely biodegradable, even if they are food-based. Overall, the workshop was an eye-opener for all participants.
