On the third Saturday of every September, volunteers from around the globe participate in clearing tons of litter from coastlines, rivers, and lakes while documenting each piece of debris collected.
The primary objectives of the ICC encompass:
The Philippine Plastics Industry Association, Inc. is actively engaged in a collaborative effort with the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) as part of its pivotal development initiatives in Metro Manila.
The Philippine Plastics Industry Association, Inc. is a member of the Metro Manila Solid Waste Management Board - Technical Working Group. This esteemed assembly convenes to deliberate upon strategic plans and initiatives aimed at enhancing solid waste management within the cities of the National Capital Region (NCR). Moreover, the group regularly conducts quarterly meetings, providing a platform for the presentation of progress updates from each city regarding their respective solid waste management programs.
As an engaged member of the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA), the Philippine Plastics Industry Association, Inc. played a pivotal role within the consultative group responsible for the formulation of the Metro Manila Flood Management Project Phase I Component 2: Minimizing Solid Waste in Waterways.
The overarching goal of the Metro Manila Flood Management Project in the Philippines is to enhance flood management within designated areas of Metro Manila. Within Component 2 of this project, the MMDA, in conjunction with key stakeholders, is dedicated to the reorganization and establishment of an effective solid waste management system throughout the barangays and tributaries located within the drainage areas of pumping stations. The central objective is to foster behavioral changes and encourage active cooperation to prevent the accumulation of solid waste in these critical drainage areas.
In alignment with this endeavor, the MMDA has initiated two significant events: the Kiddie Summit on Solid Waste Management and the Barangay Leaders Summit on Solid Waste Management. The primary aim of these events is to educate the public on the principles of responsible consumption, production, recycling process of everyday materials, and segregation at source.
The Philippine Plastics Industry Association, Inc. (PPIA) stands in strong alignment with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources - Environmental Management Bureau (DENR-EMB) in the ongoing efforts protecting the environment. Recognizing its role as an environmentally responsible stakeholder, PPIA actively engages in a range of EMB-led forums and meetings focused on the protection of land, air, and water resources. PPIA also engages in events aimed at disseminating essential information regarding the proper handling of plastic waste, with a particular emphasis on segregation at source.
The Philippine Plastics Industry Association, Inc. is part of the Water Quality Management Areas (WQMA) governing board for the three river systems namely Malabon-Navotas-Tullahan-Tinajeros and Las Piñas-Parañaque and San Juan River systems. The primary objective of the governing board is to safeguard and enhance the water quality of these vital river systems.
The board is presided over by a regional director from the DENR's Environmental Management Bureau (EMB), and their membership comprises not only the respective mayor and governor of the concerned local government unit, representatives from pertinent national government agencies, accredited non-government organizations, as well as business and water utility sectors.
Functioning as pivotal planning, monitoring, and coordinating bodies, these governing boards play a vital role in the review of the action plans for WQMA prepared by the EMB. Within the WQMA framework, the DENR, together with its stakeholders, diligently addresses concerns related to water quality, pollution sources, and the optimal utilization of the recipient water bodies. Furthermore, they collaboratively identify and implement the requisite control measures to effectively realize the defined water quality objectives and improvements.
The Philippine Plastics Industry Association, Inc. is a member of the Airshed Governing Board. The central mission of this governing body is to collaboratively formulate a comprehensive national program aimed at attaining and sustaining air quality levels that adhere to the National Air Quality Guidelines for Criteria Pollutants throughout the Philippines, while minimizing the possible associated negative impacts on the country’s economy.
Presided over by a regional director from the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR)'s Environmental Management Bureau (EMB), the board's membership encompasses city mayors, representatives from national government agencies, non-government organizations, and the business sector.
The strategic deployment of air monitoring stations in various cities empowers agencies and local government officials to continually evaluate air quality within their respective jurisdictions. This data-driven approach facilitates the formulation of comprehensive policies and regulations aimed at the overall betterment of their communities. Given the widespread distribution of these monitoring stations across Metro Manila and other highly urbanized areas, it provides a more inclusive representation of air quality conditions on a nationwide scale.
