The Senate Committee on Finance, presided over by Senator Sonny Angara, is currently drafting Senate Bill 2218, "An Act Mandating the Formulation, Financing, Implementation, Monitoring, and Evaluation of a Comprehensive and Multi-Year "Tatak Pinoy" (proudly Filipino) Strategy, Establishing a Tatak Pinoy Council, Appropriating Funds Therefor, and for Other Purposes."
On July 26, 2023, an inquiry in aid of the said legislation was conducted via online and physical sessions in the Senate. PPIA, as one of the manufacturing sectors in the private sector, was invited to share its insights and updates on the industry. Specifically on the current challenges and difficulties it is facing with the view of addressing these gaps through legislation. Representatives from the airline, space, firearms, and other industries were present. The plastic industry was represented by President Aaron Lao, who shared with the body that the major issue facing the plastic industry is the influx of imported products because of low or zero tariffs. Due to this, the local plastic industry is suffering. The senator acknowledged this concern and responded that the committee will look into it in consultation with the Tariff Commission.
